Canadian Provincial Health Care/Medical Insurance Plans

Our provincial health care plans are very good, but there are often restrictions to them, such as a restriction on how long you can be out of the country each year before you lose coverage and a waiting period before you can reinstate that coverage. For example, in B.C., the medical plan is based on residency in the province, which must be at least 6 months in a year. If you lose coverage, you will need to wait the period of time from the date you re-enter the country till the end of that month, plus two more months (it used to be a flat 3 months) before coverage can be re-instated. You will need to pay full premiums for the first year, only after one year of residency can you be considered for premium assistance. It is important to check what the restrictions are in your province or territory before you return to Canada, so that you can make other health plans. In the meantime, you would need to cover yourself and your family with other medical or travel insurance.

Blue Cross - Let Blue Cross travel coverage take care of any unexpected medical emergency costs so you can travel worry free.
